The S visa or Private Visit Visa is relatively new and allows family members to visit loved ones who are working or going to school in China. Private Visits and Family Reunion Visas (S and Q) Initially this visa is only good for 30 days so it’s imperative that you apply for a Temporary Residence Permit when you arrive which has a maximum of 5 years. Your employer is responsible for sending you the proper documents such as a Visa Notification Letter and Employee Permit. Remember: It is technically illegal to work for pay in China without a work visa and you can get deported for doing so.
